Argan Oil- The Latest Craze or real?!

Posted on June 19, 2014 at 1:55 PM

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Have you heard the latest craze about Argan oil?  It is great for the hair and skin, makes a ton of promises and is the miracle cure for damaged hair?  Argan oil is a plant oil produced from the kernels of the argan tree (Argania spinosa L.) that is endemic to Morocco. It is used for nutritive and cosmetic properties.  For more info on Argan oil- check it out on Wikipedia.

Well I was able to test this product out and found a lot of truth to the claims.  I started out wanting something for my daughters hair because she has super fine hair that is always full of knots!  She also has a wave to her hair that turns out as frizz!  So I don't want to burn out her hair with products that will dry it out or repeated straightening to avoid all of the knots- what could be better?

To begin I tried the product on my hair, and I used it several different ways, first I used as a deep conditioner, then as a regular conditioner, and finally as a protector for when I straighted my hair.

Then I used it on my daughters hair as a conditioner, as well as a leave in conditioner and finally as a protector for the hot iron!

What I LOVE about this product!

Argan Oil - Improves the elasticity of dry and brittle hair.

• Shea Butter - Nourishes your hair from roots to tips.

• Olive Oil -A great natural conditioner that can revive even the most damaged hair.

• Coconut Oil - Works wonders for both dry and oily scalp.

• Jojoba Oil - Repairs damage and promotes hair growth.

• Sunflower Oil - A light moisturizing oil that softens the hair, while making it more manageable.

• Grapeseed Oil - Serves as a natural sunscreen for hair

The company is awesome to work with and very hands on!

One of the things you should know about is the overwhelming musty smell.  This is exactly how it's supposed to smell like and it basically comes from all of the oils, especially argan oil which makes up 21% of this formula. Argan Oil does have a very nutty scent and it comes through into the oil. That's the main reason for the "musty" smell.  This for me was a huge turn off.

Also I noticed that this left our hair very greasy looking and I used a very little bit,   it does make your hair soft and frizz free, but wet looking.  I did find it worked best as a protector when you flat iron, but for me I don't think I'll use it again because of how my hair reacted.  That is not to say your hair will do the same thing, and as a matter of fact many people do not have the same issue. Best part it is that it is 100% guarenteed and they will refund your money if you are unhappy.  This is a bonus and definatley worth the try especially for the summer time!

If you're using it for daily wear for heat protection, they only recommend that you apply a drop or two at the most (starting with smallest amount possible and increasing the amount as more is needed). The main purpose is of this product is for deep conditioning hair treatment. So applying it for 10 minutes to 2 hours prior to washing your hair. You can also leave it overnight.

Happy Hair Day!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
